Oat Bowl Essentials

My all time favorite winter breakfast: the oat bowl. Oat bowls are a great way to start off your day with something warm in your stomach to keep you full until lunch time. They're incredibly easy to personalize and NEVER have to be boring. Here are some of my favorite variations:

Banana Pom Bowl

Base:

1/2 cup oats

1 cup water

1/2 banana sliced

1 tsp brown sugar

Toppings:

the other half of the banana (sliced)

fresh pomegranate seeds

chia seeds

cacao nibs

Wintery Oat Bowl

Base:

1/2 cup oats

1 cup water

1 tsp brown sugar

Toppings:

(fresh) frozen blueberries

crumbled walnuts

coconut shreds

chia seeds

Almond butter bowl

Am I the only one out there that doesn't like peanut butter? Sometimes it feels that way... either way you will never catch me using peanut butter in any of my recipes. Regardless, feel free to sub in peanut butter whenever I am using almond butter.

Base:

1/2 cup oats

1 cup water

1 tsp brown sugar

Toppings:

(fresh) frozen blueberries

cacao nibs

chia seeds

almond butter

Berry Oats

Berry compotes are a great way to add fruity flavor to oats, pancakes, waffles, and literally any breakfast food out there. I typically make compotes when I have leftover berries, like strawberries or blackberries, that I boil down in a few tablespoons of water with a dash of coconut sugar.

Base:

1/2 cup oats

1 cup water

1 tsp brown sugar

Toppings:

berry compote swirl

pomegranate seeds

chia seeds

almond butter

Flavors of the Rainbow

Base:

1/2 cup oats

1 cup water

1 tsp brown sugar

Toppings:

(fresh) frozen blueberries

pepitas (pumpkin seeds)

crumbled walnuts

cacao nibs

chia seeds

almond butter

I almost always use Bob's Red Mill Oats as my oat base with the occasional added fruit (bananas, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries typically cook the best). I typically also drizzle maple syrup on top before eating as a nice sweetener. And (as you can tell) I always serve in my coconut bowls. You can tell from my typical bowls above, some of my favorite ingredients are frozen blueberries, almond butter, chia seeds, cacao nibs, and bananas. However, for your oat bowls, throw any fruit/nut/nut butter mix on there and I guarantee it will be delicious!
